On Sunday 25 July 2021, she became the first American woman to win Olympic gold in taekwondo, defeating Tatiana Minina of the ROC 25 to 17.

In 2019, she clinched the BWF World Tour title at the Super 300 New Zealand Open beat the 2012 Olympic gold medalists Li Xuerui of China in the final.
