Sun Yat-sen was a Chinese statesman, physician, and political philosopher, who served as the provisional first president of the Republic of China and the first leader of the Kuomintang. He is referred as the "Father of the Nation" in the Republic of China, and as the "Forerunner of the Revolution" in the People’s Republic of China for his instrumental role in the overthrow of the Qing dynasty during the Xinhai Revolution. Sun is unique among 20th-century Chinese leaders for being widely revered in both mainland China and Taiwan.

Sun Yang is a Chinese Olympic and world-record-holding competitive swimmer. In 2012, Sun became the first Chinese man to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming. Sun is the first male swimmer in history to earn Olympic and World Championship gold medals at every freestyle distance between 200 and 1500 metres. A three-time Olympic gold medallist and eleven-time world champion, he is the most decorated Chinese swimmer in history. In 2017, NBC Sports described him as "arguably the greatest freestyle swimmer of all time".

Sun Lijun is a former Chinese politician. He was investigated by the Chinese Communist Party's anti-graft agency in April 2020. Previously he served as Deputy Minister of Public Security and vice-president of the China Law Society. Prior to that, he served as director of the First Bureau of Ministry of Public Security, handling domestic political security. And he served as the ministry's director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office and a deputy director of the 610 Office, which was in charge of suppressing Falun Gong practitioners. Sun became the second official at provincial or ministerial level to be investigated by the anti-corruption watchdog in 2020, after Zhang Zhinan, former vice governor of east China's Fujian province.

From 2012 to 2017, Sun served as the Communist Party Secretary of Chongqing, an interior municipality, and a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China. Sun Xiaoguo,, , was a serial rapist and gang leader from Kunming, China. Sun was known for the brutality of his crimes as well as his evasion of justice. Sun was sentenced to death in 1998, but his sentence was commuted to twenty years due to corruption within the system. He was released in April 2010, after serving 12 years and 5 months. After being released from prison, Sun participated in organised crime under the name "Li Linchen". During a crackdown on organised crime, Sun was arrested on charges of leading an organised criminal gang. When Sun’s name appeared in the list of criminal gangs, his case attracted the attention of the media, as he had been sentenced to death 21 years prior. Sun was executed on February 20, 2020. Sun's brutal methods stunned the investigating staff, and the phrase "[Deng] Xiaoping rules in the day, [Sun] Xiaoguo rules in the night" spread in Kunming.

Sun Tzu was a Chinese general, military strategist, writer and philosopher who lived in the Eastern Zhou period of ancient China. Sun Tzu is traditionally credited as the author of The Art of War, an influential work of military strategy that has affected both Western and East Asian philosophy and military thinking. His works focus much more on alternatives to battle, such as stratagem, delay, the use of spies and alternatives to war itself, the making and keeping of alliances, the uses of deceit and a willingness to submit, at least temporarily, to more powerful foes. Sun Tzu is revered in Chinese and East Asian culture as a legendary historical and military figure. His birth name was Sun Wu and he was known outside of his family by his courtesy name Changqing. The name Sun Tzu by which he is best known in the Western World is an honorific which means "Master Sun".
