Mikhail Vladimirovich Alpatov was a Soviet historian and art theorist, notable for his contribution to the history of the culture of ancient Rus.

Mikhail Sergeyevich Solomentsev was a high-ranking Soviet politician and statesman. He was born near Yelets and graduated from the Leningrad Technological Institute in 1940. Solomentsev was a leading Communist Party functionary in Kazakhstan during 1962–1964 and was in charge of the Rostov-on-Don obkom from 1964–1966.

Mikhail Leonovich Gasparov was a Russian philologist and translator, renowned for his studies in classical philology and the history of versification, and a member of the informal Tartu-Moscow Semiotic School. He graduated from Moscow State University in 1957 and worked at the Gorky Institute of World Literature, the Russian State University for the Humanities, and the Russian Language Institute in Moscow. In 1992 Gasparov was elected a full member of the Russian Academy of Science.

Mikhail Mikhaylovich Ippolitov-Ivanov was a Russian composer, conductor and teacher. His music expanded from the late-Romantic era and into the 20th century era.
