Catholicos Karekin II is Catholicos of All Armenians, the supreme head of the Armenian Apostolic Church. In 2013 he was unanimously elected the Oriental Orthodox head of the World Council of Churches for the next eight years.

Garegin or Karekin Pastermadjian, better known by his nom de guerre Armen Garo or Armen Karo was an Armenian nationalist activist and politician. Armen Karo was a leading member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation for more than two decades. He was one of the masterminds of the 1896 occupation of the Ottoman Bank in response to the Hamidian massacres and Operation Nemesis, in which several perpetrators of the Armenian Genocide were assassinated. Between 1918 and 1920 he served as the first ambassador to the United States from the First Republic of Armenia.

Archbishop Karekin II Kazanjian, was the 83rd Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople under the authority of the Catholicos of Armenia and of all Armenians.

Karekin I, served as the Catholicos of the Armenian Apostolic Church between 1994 and 1999. Previously, he served as the Catholicos of Cilicia from 1983 to 1994 as Karekin II.

Karekin Deveciyan was a Turkish-Armenian zoologist who wrote Türkiye'de Balık ve Balıkçılık, one of the first scientific studies on fish and fisheries in Turkey. He served in the Ottoman bureaucracy and held offices related to fishery. He was the grandfather of French politician Patrick Devedjian.
