Luis Miguel Barbosa Maia is a beach volleyball player from Portugal, who competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1996. He ended up in fourth place in Atlanta (1996) and in Sydney (2000), alongside João Brenha, after having lost the bronze medal match against the German couple Axel Hager / Jörg Ahmann. He currently plays for Sporting CP.

Marco Aurélio Spall Maia, better known as Marco Maia, is a Brazilian politician, and the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil from 2010 to 2013. He is serving a third consecutive term as Federal Deputy for the state of Rio Grande do Sul. A metalworker and union leader by trade, Maia joined the Workers' Party in 1985.

John Donovan Maia, more commonly known as Johnny Hooker, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, actor and screenwriter. He won the Prêmio da Música Brasileira for Best Singer in the Pop Music category.
