She is the former chairwoman of DreamWorks Animation, having stepped down after negotiating the acquisition of DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc., by NBCUniversal in August, 2016. In 2017, she became the first African-American woman to head The Economic Club of Chicago. She was also named to chair the board of directors of Starbucks in 2021, making her one of the highest profile African American corporate directors.

Mary Hobson is an English writer, poet and translator. She has written four novels and an autobiography. She translated Alexander Griboedov's Woe from Wit and his letters. She also translated works by Alexander Pushkin. She has won the Griboedov Prize and Pushkin Medal.

Darington O'Neal Hobson is an American professional basketball player for Peñarol of the Argentine Liga Nacional de Básquet. He played college basketball for the University of New Mexico Lobos men's basketball team. Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, Hobson attended five high schools and a junior college before finally becoming eligible to play Division I college basketball. Hobson was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2010 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. Hobson was waived on December 2, 2010, due to injury. A year later, Hobson was re-signed by the Bucks for the 2011–12 season. He was waived again on February 3, 2012.
