List of Famous people who died in 1939

Hans Grässel was a German architect. Grässel studied and performed almost his entire career in Munich, and as the council architect of the city he created a series of cemeteries of which Munich Waldfriedhof, opened in 1907, is well known for being the first woodland cemetery. Grässel also wrote a pamphlet on cemetery design, Über Friedhofanlagen und Grabdenkmale (1913). In 1914, he was given the order Pour le Mérite.

Germán Busch Becerra was a Bolivian military officer and war hero who served as the 36th president of Bolivia.

Daudi Chwa II was Kabaka of the Kingdom of Buganda from 1897 until 1939. He was the 34th Kabaka of Buganda.

Mary Frances Dawson, Countess of Dartrey, 24th Baroness de Ros of Helmsley, was a British peer. She was born in London. Her parents were The 23rd Baron de Ros and Lady Elizabeth Egerton. Upon her father's death in 1907, Mary succeeded to the title.
