Levi Leonard Conant was an American mathematician specializing in trigonometry.

Hamish MacCunn was a Scottish late Romantic composer, conductor and teacher. His opera Diarmid, was produced at Covent Garden on 23 October 1897. His other music includes cantatas, Concert overtures, part-songs, instrumental pieces and songs, all markedly Scottish in type. He had a genuine love of Scottish folksong, and although he lived in London he was a lifelong champion of Scottish music and of the country's musical life.

Hermann Jürgens was a prelate of the Catholic Church. He was born on 8 December 1846 in Münster, in the province of Westphalia and died on 20 September 1916 in Bombay (India).

Jakob Moritz Grün was an Austrian violinist of Hungarian origin. After positions as principal violinist in the court orchestras of Weimar and Hannover, he was, from 1868 to 1897, concertmaster of the Vienna Court Opera Orchestra. He taught notable players at the Vienna Conservatory from 1877 to 1908, including 20 future orchestra members, as well as Carl Flesch and Franz Kneisel.

He is regarded as a key transitional figure between literary realism and literary modernism and is considered by many to be among the greatest novelists in the English language. He was the son of Henry James Sr. and the brother of renowned philosopher and psychologist William James and diarist Alice James.

Rembrandt Bugatti was an Italian sculptor, known primarily for his bronze sculptures of wildlife subjects. During World War I, he volunteered for paramedical work at a military hospital in Antwerp, an experience that triggered in Bugatti the onset of depression, aggravated by financial problems, which eventually caused him to commit suicide on 8 January 1916 in Paris, France. He was 31 years old.

Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov was a Russian Imperial zoologist of Moldavian and Ukrainian Jewish origin best known for his pioneering research in immunology.
