Adolf Tobler was a Swiss-German linguist and philologist. Born in Hirzel in Zürich, Switzerland, he was the brother of linguist Ludwig Tobler (1827–1895). Adolf Tobler died in Berlin, Germany.

Hu Xiansu or Hu Hsien-Hsu, was a Chinese botanist and an influential traditional scholar of his time. He was a founder of plant taxonomy in China and a pioneer of modern botany research in the country.

Daniel Woodson was secretary of Kansas Territory (1854–1857) and a five-time acting governor of the territory.

Lewis Richard Watson, 3rd Baron Sondes, styled Hon. Lewis Watson until 1806, was an English peer. His legal struggle with his former tutor over the occupation of the rectory of Kettering led to the case of Fletcher v. Lord Sondes, in which the House of Lords declared that bonds of special resignation were simoniacal. After extensive litigation, he succeeded in instituting his younger brother in the rectory.
