Abraham Lempel is an Israeli computer scientist and one of the fathers of the LZ family of lossless data compression algorithms.

Vitold Lvovich Shmulyan, was a Soviet mathematician known for his work in functional analysis. The Eberlein–Šmulian theorem and Krein–Smulian theorem are named after him.
