Alexander Selkirk was a Scottish privateer and Royal Navy officer who spent four years and four months as a castaway (1704–1709) after being marooned by his captain on an uninhabited island in the South Pacific Ocean. He survived that ordeal, but succumbed to tropical illness years later while serving aboard HMS Weymouth off West Africa.

Elizabeth McColgan-Nuttall is a British former middle-distance and long-distance track and road-running athlete. She won the gold medal for the 10,000 metres at the 1991 World Championships, and a silver medal over the same distance at the 1988 Olympic Games. She was also a two-time gold medallist over the distance at the Commonwealth Games, as well as winning the 1992 World Half Marathon Championships, 1991 New York City Marathon, 1992 Tokyo Marathon and 1996 London Marathon. Her 10,000 metres best of 30:57.07 set in 1991, made her only the third woman in history to run the distance in under 31 minutes. Both that time and her marathon best of 2:26:52 in 1997, still stand as Scottish records.

Lady Flora Elizabeth Rawdon-Hastings was a British aristocrat and lady-in-waiting to Queen Victoria's mother, the Duchess of Kent. Her death in 1839 was the subject of a court scandal that gave the Queen a negative image.

John McGinn is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Aston Villa and the Scotland national team. McGinn previously played for St Mirren and Hibernian, and also represented Scotland at the under-19 and under-21 levels. He made his full international debut in March 2016.

Peter Patrick Lorimer is a Scottish former footballer, best known for his time with Leeds United and Scotland during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was an attacking midfielder, generally regarded as having one of the hardest shots in football. From 1984 to 1985 he was club captain of Leeds and holds the record as the club's youngest ever player and record goalscorer with 238 goals in all competitions. He has been voted as the ninth-greatest Leeds player of all time and voted into the Greatest Leeds United team of all time. After retiring as a player, Lorimer became a director on the board at Leeds, provided match commentary on BBC Radio Leeds and Yorkshire Radio, and has written a regular column in the Yorkshire Evening Post. Since April 2013 he has held the position of club ambassador.

Sir George Iain Duncan Smith, often referred to by his initials IDS, is a British politician who served as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions from 2010 to 2016. He was previously Leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Opposition from 2001 to 2003. He has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Chingford and Woodford Green, formerly Chingford, since 1992.

Alastair George Bell Sim, CBE was a Scottish character actor who began his theatrical career at the age of thirty and quickly became established as a popular West End performer, remaining so until his death in 1976. Starting in 1935, he also appeared in more than fifty British films, including an iconic adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novella A Christmas Carol, released in 1951 as Scrooge in Great Britain and as A Christmas Carol in the United States. Though an accomplished dramatic actor, he is often remembered for his comically sinister performances.

Eilish McColgan is a British middle-distance athlete who competes in the 3000 metres steeplechase and 5000 metres. She represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. She represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and in 2018 at the Gold Coast. She is the Scottish record holder in the 3000 metres steeplechase with 9:35.82 in 2013.
