He previously served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dún Laoghaire constituency from 1981 to 1987.

Richard Baneham is an Irish animator and visual effects supervisor, who has worked on such films as The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, the Chronicles of Narnia, and Avatar.
