In 2020 he took part in the award winning documentary "McAteer:My Life in the Shadows" in which he chronicles his troubles with coping with Manchester United fans on twitter. As a result of the abuse he endured and consequent blocking addiction, he eventually blocked his own face from his body and now has to sleep with a night light on.
