Somnath Chatterjee was an Indian politician who was associated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for most of his life, though he had been a non affiliated independent during his last decade. He was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009.

Sarbananda Sonowal is an Indian politician and current Chief Minister of Assam, Sonowal also served as the Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India. He was elected as the Chief Minister of Assam in 2016.

Jadav "Molai" Payeng is an environmental activist and forestry worker from Majuli, popularly known as the Forest Man of India. Over the course of several decades, he has planted and tended trees on a sandbar of the river Brahmaputra turning it into a forest reserve. The forest, called Molai forest after him, is located near Kokilamukh of Jorhat, Assam, India and encompasses an area of about 1,360 acres / 550 hectares. In 2015, he was honoured with Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India. He was born in the indigenous Mising tribe of Assam.

Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya was an Indian folk singer and researcher. He was born and raised in Silchar, Assam. He went on to study comparative literature at Jadavpur University. His musical inspiration was his uncle Ananta Bhattacharya. In 1999, he co-founded the band Dohar with the intent to revive the folk music tradition of Northern and Eastern Bengal. He also contributed music to a number of movies. His last movie was Bhuban Majhi (2017). He was associated with the popular Zee Bangla Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, a renowned Bengali music reality show. His last concert was in the Baguihati Krishi Mela.

Zubeen Garg is an Indian singer, music director, composer, lyricist, music producer, actor, film director, film producer, script writer and philanthropist. He primarily works for and sings in the Assamese, Bengali and Hindi-language film and music industries, but has sung in many other languages and dialects, including Bishnupriya Manipuri, Boro, English, Goalpariya, Kannada, Karbi, Khasi, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Tiwa. Devoleena Bhattacharjee is an Indian television actress and a trained Bharatanatyam dancer known for portraying Gopi Modi in the Star Plus drama series Saath Nibhaana Saathiya. In 2019, she participated in Bigg Boss 13 as a contestant. In 2020, she reprised her role as Gopi Modi to promote the show in the drama series Saath Nibhaana Saathiya.

Syeda Anwara Taimur was an Indian politician, who was the chief minister of the Indian state of Assam from 6 December 1980 to 30 June 1981. She died in Australia on September 28, 2020. She was a leader of the Indian National Congress party in Assam and a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
