He began drawing attention when he was featured in the "Troublesome Night" movie series. He starred in 27 films in 1999 alone, and began writing scripts the same year, starting with Last Ghost Standing.

Kong Hee is the founder and senior pastor of City Harvest Church, most known for his involvement in the City Harvest Church Criminal Breach of Trust Case, Singapore's biggest case in misuse of charitable funds. He was convicted in 2015 of criminal breach of trust in the Singapore courts and served his sentence at Changi Prison Complex until the 22 August 2019.
