He is one of the six founding members of the Front de Libération Nationale that launched an armed revolt throughout Algeria and issued a proclamation calling for a sovereign Algerian state.

Hershel Woodrow "Woody" Williams is a retired United States Marine Corps warrant officer and United States Department of Veterans Affairs veterans service representative who received the United States military's highest decoration for valor—the Medal of Honor—for heroism above and beyond the call of duty during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. He and Charles H. Coolidge are the only living Medal of Honor recipients from that war. Nicknamed "Bloody Babs" by the press, Graham was the third woman in California to be executed by gas.
