Sampson Gideon
Sampson Gideon
Sampson Gideon was a British-born Sephardic Jewish banker, operating out of the City of London. Gideon bankrolled the Hanovarian-Whig government's suppression of the Jacobite Rising of 1745, subsequently becoming a trusted "adviser of the Government," and a supporter of the Jew Bill of 1753. James Picciotto in his Sketches of Anglo-Jewish History (1875) described Gideon as the "Rothschild of his day" and the "pillar of state credit."
