John Francis Dearden

John Francis Dearden was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Detroit from 1958 to 1980, and was created a cardinal in 1969. He previously served as Bishop of Pittsburgh from 1950 to 1958. His term as Archbishop of Detroit is noted for a decline in parochial school enrollments, declining numbers of priests in the archdiocese, and a decline of numbers of parishioners.
