Donough MacCarty, 1st Earl of Clancarty
Sir Donough MacCarty, 1st Earl of Clancarty (1594–1665), named Viscount Muskerry from 1641 to 1658, was an Irish magnate, soldier, and politician. He demanded religious freedom as a Catholic and defended the rights of the Gaelic nobility, trying to play the rebel and the royalist at the same time.
