John Gaspard Gubbins was an Africana collector and writer. He was the son of a rector Richard Shard Gubbins and Ellen Rolls who were married on 21 November 1865.

General Sir John Grenfell Maxwell, was a British Army officer and colonial governor. He served in the Mahdist War in the Sudan, the Second Boer War, and in the First World War. As military governor in Ireland, he played a key part in the response to the 1916 Irish Easter Rising, including ordering the execution of the leaders of the rising. He retired in 1922.

John Bush is an American heavy metal singer and songwriter. He came to prominence in the 1980s as the lead singer and lyricist of Armored Saint, a heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California. In 1992, he joined thrash metal band Anthrax, with whom he remained until 2005 and briefly rejoined in 2009–2010. Bush has also been active with the reformed Armored Saint intermittently from 1999 to the present.

John Baring, 2nd Baron Revelstoke was senior partner of Barings Bank from the 1890s until his death. John was the eldest surviving son of Edward Baring, 1st Baron Revelstoke, and a great-grandson of the firm’s founder, Sir Francis Baring.
