Hu Zhengyan was a Chinese artist, printmaker and publisher. He worked in calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, and seal-carving, but was primarily a publisher, producing academic texts as well as records of his own work.

Hu Lien was a Chinese Nationalist general who participated in the Northern Expedition, anti-communist Encirclement Campaigns, Second Sino-Japanese War and Chinese Civil War.

Hu Haifeng is a Chinese politician and the son of Hu Jintao, former General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of the People’s Republic of China. He is currently the Party Committee Secretary of Lishui, Zhejiang, and previously the deputy Party Committee Secretary and mayor of Jiaxing.

Hu Lanqi, also spelled Hu Lanxi, was a Chinese writer and military leader. She joined the National Revolutionary Army in 1927 and the Chinese branch of the Communist Party of Germany in 1930. She was imprisoned by Nazi Germany in 1933 and wrote an influential memoir of her experience, for which she was invited by Maxim Gorky to meet him in Moscow. After the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937, she organized a team of women soldiers to resist the Japanese invasion, and became the first woman to be awarded the rank of Major General by the Republic of China. She supported the Communists during the Chinese Civil War, but was persecuted in Mao Zedong's political campaigns following the Communist victory in China. She survived the Cultural Revolution to see her political rehabilitation, and published a detailed memoir of her life in the 1980s.

Hu Jinqing was a Chinese animator and film director, and a pioneer in adapting the traditional art of Chinese paper cutting to animation. His film The Fight Between the Snipe and the Clam won the Silver Bear for Best Short Film at the 1984 Berlin International Film Festival. He co-directed the 1980s animated television series Calabash Brothers and created the Hulu (Calabash) Babies, which have become some of the most popular animated characters in China.

Hu Bingqing is a Chinese actress who graduated from the Shanghai Institute of Visual Art. She is recognized for her role as Qi Baicao in The Whirlwind Girl (2015), Gao Yue in The Legend of Qin (2015) and Dugu Qieluo in The Legend of Dugu (2018).

Hu Lancheng was a Chinese writer and politician who was denounced as a traitor for serving a propaganda official in the Wang Jingwei regime, the Japanese puppet regime during the Second Sino-Japanese War. He was the first husband of the celebrated novelist Eileen Chang.

Hu Bo, also known by his pen name Hu Qian, was a Chinese novelist and film director, best known for his only feature film An Elephant Sitting Still (2018), which garnered widespread praise from critics. He died by suicide on 12 October 2017 at the age of 29, soon after he finished that film.
