List of Famous people named Constantius
Constantius III
Constantius III was Roman emperor of the West in 421, from 8 February until his death on 2 September. He earned his position as Emperor due to his capability as a general under Honorius, achieving the rank of Magister militum by 411. That same year, he was sent to suppress the revolt of Constantine III, a Roman general who declared himself emperor. Constantius led his army to Arles in Gaul, the capital of Constantine III, and defeated Gerontius, a general rebelling against Constantine, before himself besieging Arles. After defeating a relief force led by Edobichus, Constantius convinced Constantine to surrender, promising safe retirement, but betrayed and beheaded him as soon as he surrendered. Constantius then went on to lead campaigns against various barbarian groups in Hispania and Gaul, recovering much of both for the Western Roman Empire. Constantius was proclaimed Western Roman Emperor by Honorius on 8 February 421. He reigned for seven months before dying on 2 September 421.
Constantius Chlorus
Constantius I was a Roman emperor. He ruled as Caesar from 293 to 305 and as Augustus from 305 to 306. He was the junior colleague of the Augustus Maximian under the Tetrarchy and succeeded him as senior co-emperor of the western part of the empire. Constantius ruled the West while Galerius was Augustus in the East. He was the father of Constantine the Great and founder of the Constantinian dynasty. After his death he became known as Chlorus, but the nickname does not appear in records before the sixth century.
Constantius Gallus
Flavius Claudius Constantius Gallus (326–354) was a Roman emperor in the eastern provinces of the Roman Empire from 351 to 354, as a junior colleague (caesar) of the augustus, his cousin Constantius II. He belonged to the Constantinian dynasty, which had supplied emperors since Constantius Chlorus was appointed caesar by Diocletian. The family monopolized imperial power under Constantine the Great, during whose reign Gallus was born and whose daughter – the augusta Constantina – Gallus married. As caesar he dealt with a Jewish revolt (351–352) lead by and ruled from Antioch, but the senior emperor came to mistrust him, and ultimately Constantius II had him assassinated and replaced with his younger half-brother Julian.
Constantius II
Flavius Julius Constantius, known as Constantius II, was Roman emperor from 337 to 361. His reign saw constant warfare on the borders against the Sasanian Empire and Germanic peoples, while internally the Roman Empire went through repeated civil wars, court intrigues and usurpations. His religious policies inflamed domestic conflicts that would continue after his death.
