He was elected to the Lok Sabha, lower house of the Parliament of India from Cooch Behar, West Bengal in the 2019 Indian general election as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was also a member of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) before joining the BJP in March 2019.
