Haji Tengku Rizal Nurdin was the 14th and 15th Governor of North Sumatra, Indonesia. He served from 1998 until his death on September 5, 2005. In that time he was serving in his second period (2003–2008). In the previous period (1998–2003), he was also the Governor of North Sumatra.

Ömer Kavur was a Turkish film director, producer and screenwriter. He directed fourteen films between 1974 and 2003. His film, Gece Yolculuğu was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival. Nine years later, his film Akrebin Yolculuğu was screened in the same section at the 1997 Festival.
Saleh al-Oufi
Saleh al-Oufi or Saleh Muhammad 'Awadullah al-'Alawi al-'Oufi, was a member of al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia and became the leader of that group when Abdel Aziz al-Muqrin was killed in June 2004. Al-Oufi in turn was killed in August 2005, in Madinah.

George Hawi
George Hawi was a Lebanese politician and former secretary general of the Lebanese Communist Party (LCP). An outspoken critic of Syrian interference in Lebanese affairs, he was killed in 2005 by a bomb placed under the passenger seat of his car. Lebanese people accused the Syrian government of assassinating him. He was the stepfather of the Lebanese Armenian politician Rafi Madayan, who also has a stepson, Charbel Khalifeh Hachem.

Yamyam or Yam Yam was a Somali poet and playwright. Yamyam was one of the main contributors for the Somali National Academy of Culture (SNAC), also known as the Somali National Academy of Arts, Sciences and Literature. He was active as a poet from the 1960s.
