Robert Hutchinson Finch was a Republican politician from La Canada Flintridge, California. In 1967, he served as the 38th Lieutenant Governor of California. Following Richard Nixon's presidential campaign in 1968, he was appointed Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare in 1969. He was the Counselor to the President from 1970 until 1972. During the 1976 California United States Senate election, he lost in the Republican primary to S.I. Hayakawa.

Elisha Vanslyck Cook Jr. was an American stage, film and television character actor who often specialized in roles as "cowardly villains and neurotics". He is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal of Wilmer in the 1941 version of The Maltese Falcon and the futile efforts made by his character to intimidate Sam Spade in the film. Cook's acting career spanned more than 60 years, with roles in productions including The Big Sleep, Shane, The Killing, House on Haunted Hill, and Rosemary's Baby.

He was a New Deal liberal in economic matters, and took a leading role in Congress in forming national policy and spending regarding agriculture.

Before that, he had won three consecutive silver medals at Worlds and Europeans. He competed at the 1936 Winter Olympics, where he placed fifth, and at the 1948 Winter Olympics, where he placed seventh.
