William Keswick was a British Conservative politician and businessman, patriarch of the Keswick family, an influential shipping family in Hong Kong associated with Jardine Matheson Holdings.

Sir John Logan Campbell was a prominent Scottish-born New Zealand public figure. He was described by his contemporaries as "the father of Auckland".

John Monroe Van Vleck was an American mathematician and astronomer. He taught astronomy and mathematics at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut for more than 50 years (1853-1912), and served as acting university president twice. The Van Vleck Observatory and the crater Van Vleck on the Moon are named after him.

William McMaster Murdoch, RNR was a Scottish sailor, who was the First Officer on the RMS Titanic. He was the officer in charge on the bridge when the ship collided with an iceberg, and was one of the more than 1,500 people who died when the ship sank. His body was never recovered. The circumstances of his death are mysterious and therefore the subject of much controversy.
