Carlos Fernández Shaw was a Spanish poet, playwright, and journalist. He wrote the texts for many zarzuelas, including La revoltosa, La chavala and Las bravías, all in collaboration with José López Silva and with music by Ruperto Chapí. He also wrote the libretto for Chapí's through-written opera Margarita la tornera. He later wrote the libretto for La vida breve by Manuel de Falla, based on his tragic poem of gypsy life La chavalilla and drawing on ideas from La chavala. He wrote articles for La epoca, La illustración and El correo.

William Dunnington Bloxham was the 13th and 17th Governor of Florida in two non-consecutive terms. Prior to his first term as governor, he served in the Florida House of Representatives.

Xhemal Pasha Zogu, also known as Jamal Pasha or Jamal Pasha Zogolli, was the Hereditary Governor of Mati, Albania. He was the father of King Zog I of Albania.

James Proctor Knott was a U.S. Representative from Kentucky and served as the 29th Governor of Kentucky from 1883 to 1887. Born in Kentucky, he moved to Missouri in 1850 and began his political career there. He served as Missouri Attorney General from 1859 to 1861, when he resigned rather than swear an oath of allegiance to the federal government just prior to the outbreak of the Civil War.

Félix-Alexandre Guilmant was a French organist and composer. He was the organist of La Trinité from 1871 until 1901. A noted pedagogue, performer, and improviser, Guilmant helped found the Schola Cantorum de Paris. He was appointed as Professor of Organ at the Paris Conservatoire in 1896.

Thursday October Christian Jr. was a Pitcairn Islands political leader. He was the grandson of Fletcher Christian and son of Thursday October Christian, and mother, Teraura. He was also known as "Doctor", "Duddie" or "Doodie". He spent several years on Norfolk Island but returned to Pitcairn in 1864. Christian was three quarters Polynesian.

Edvard Petersen was a Danish painter. He also designed the Stork Fountain on Amagertorv in Copenhagen.

Sir Charles Wentworth Dilke, 2nd Baronet, PC was an English Liberal and Radical politician. A republican in the early 1870s, he later became a leader in the radical challenge to Whig control of the Liberal Party, making a number of important contributions, including the legislation increasing democracy in 1883–1885, his support of the growing labour and feminist movements and his prolific writings on international affairs.

George James Howard, 9th Earl of Carlisle, known as George Howard until 1889, was an English aristocrat, peer, politician, and painter. He was the last Earl of Carlisle to own Castle Howard.
