Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 1st Earl of Minto, PC, FRSE, known as Sir Gilbert Elliott until 1797, was a British diplomat and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1776 and 1795. He was viceroy of the short-lived Anglo-Corsican Kingdom from 1793 to 1796 and went on to become Governor-General of India between July 1807 and 1813.

Fenton John Anthony Hort (1828–1892), known as F. J. A. Hort, was an Irish-born theologian and editor, with Brooke Foss Westcott of a critical edition of The New Testament in the Original Greek.

Halldór Kiljan Laxness was an Icelandic writer and winner of the 1955 Nobel Prize in Literature. He wrote novels, poetry, newspaper articles, essays, plays, travelogues and short stories. Major influences included August Strindberg, Sigmund Freud, Knut Hamsun, Sinclair Lewis, Upton Sinclair, Bertolt Brecht and Ernest Hemingway.

John Prinsep (1748–1830) was born the son of a vicar in rural Oxfordshire, England, with limited horizons for advancement. He joined the East India Company as a cadet, travelling to Bombay, and was soon engaged in mercantile pursuits, eventually becoming the earliest British merchant to plant indigo, and becoming extremely wealthy in the process. Prinsep subsequently returned to England, where he became a London alderman and a member of parliament, but he eventually lost both large fortunes he created. He was the progenitor of an Anglo-Indian family of merchants, all of whom were artistically gifted.

Captain Sir Henry Onslow, 2nd Baronet was a British baronet and son of Sir Richard Onslow, 1st Baronet, whose baronetcy he succeeded on 27 December 1817. He was also Captain in the Royal Artillery.

Mahmood Mamdani, FBA is a Ugandan academic, author, and political commentator. He currently serves as the Chancellor of Kampala International University, Uganda. He is the director of the Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR), the Herbert Lehman Professor of Government at the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University and the Professor of Anthropology, Political Science and African Studies at Columbia University.

He ended up in fourth place in Atlanta (1996) and in Sydney (2000), alongside João Brenha, after having lost the bronze medal match against the German couple Axel Hager / Jörg Ahmann. He currently plays for Sporting CP.
