Ippolito (II) d'Este was an Italian cardinal and statesman. He was a member of the House of Este, and nephew of the other Ippolito d'Este, also a cardinal. He is perhaps best known for his despoliation of the then 1,400-year-old Hadrian's Villa, built by the Roman emperor Hadrian, removing marbles and statues from it to decorate his own villa, the Villa d'Este.

Pier Maria III de' Rossi was an Italian general and nobleman, the second marquess and seventh count of San Secondo.

Eleonora d'Este was a Ferrarese noblewoman. She was the first daughter of Alfonso I d'Este, Duke of Ferrara and his second wife Lucrezia Borgia – as his first daughter, Alfonso named her after his mother Eleanor of Naples.

Ginevra d'Este was an Italian noblewoman. She and her twin sister Lucia were daughters of Niccolò III d'Este and his second wife Parisina Malatesta - they also had a younger brother, who died aged a few months. She was the first of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta's three wives.

Ettore Bastico was an Italian military officer before and during World War II. In addition to being a general of the Royal Italian Army, he was also a senator and governor. He held high commands during the Second Italo-Abyssinian War (Ethiopia), the Spanish Civil War, and the North African Campaign.

Maria Beatrix Anna Frances of Austria-Este (1824-1906), Italian: Maria Beatrice Anna Francesca d'Austria-Este, was a high aristocrat from the Modena branch of the House of Habsburg. As daughter to the ruling Duke of Modena she was born archduchess of Austria-Este and princess of Modena. Following the 1847 marriage she became Infanta of Spain and Countess of Montizón. As the Duchy of Modena was absorbed into the Kingdom of Italy, since 1859 she lived on exile in the imperial Austria. According to the Carlist reading, in 1861-1868 she was the queen consort of Spain. According to the legitimist reading, in 1883-1887 she was the queen consort of France. Since 1853 she lived separated from her husband and did not claim any of the royal titles, though after 1868 she supported the claim of her oldest son, Carlos. Since 1872 she lived in monasteries, first in Graz and since 1898 in Görz.
