Previously, Shannon was the head football coach at the University of Miami from 2007 to 2010, and has served as an assistant coach or defensive coordinator for the National Football League's Miami Dolphins and for several college teams, including at Miami, where he won the Frank Broyles Award as the nation's top collegiate assistant coach in 2001.
