Born and raised in Hawaii to Samoan parents, he attended Saint Louis School in Honolulu. Following that, he attended the University of Alabama to play college football. He helped to lead the Crimson Tide to back-to-back National Championship Game appearances during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, winning the former and being named MVP.
