List of Famous people named Sir

Sir George Shirley (1559-1622) was an English landowner and the second man to be created a baronet. He was the son of John (1535-70), eldest son of Francis Shirley (1515-71) of Staunton Harold, and Jane, only daughter and heir of Thomas Lovett of Astwell, Northants. The family inclined to Roman Catholicism and one of his sisters, Elizabeth Shirley, became a nun, but generally they maintained sufficient conformity to avoid the penalties for recusancy.

Sir John Gordon, 2nd Baronet was the eldest son of Sir John Gordon, 1st Baronet, of Haddo and Mary Forbes. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet on the execution of his father for treason on 19 July 1644, but due to his father's attainder, was under forfeiture until the Restoration in 1660. On his death in 1665 without male issue the baronetcy devolved upon his younger brother, who was later created 1st Earl of Aberdeen.
