Known for her beauty, Charlotte was married at age 12 to her husband, Edward Henry Lee, 1st Earl of Lichfield, with whom she had a large family.

Previously, he had served as Member of Parliament for Oxfordshire from 1740 until acceding to the peerage in 1743.
